    About the department

    Department of Hindi has been functioning since the inception of Payyanur college in 1965. The first head of the department was late Dr.Kunjiraman. it was a source of inspiration and the department made great achievement under his able leadership. Another eminent professor of this department was Dr. Balakrishnan Nair. The department has a glorious tradition of scholars. It was in 1975 B.A degree program me was introduced for the first time and was affiliated to the Kerala university. Later all program me were affiliated to Calicut university. The department is actively promoting Hindi language and literature in the region.

    The department has a long history of eminent professors who served the society and nation as a whole like Dr. M Meera, Dr. V.N Ramani, Dr P Balakrishnan, Prof. K Janardhanan, Dr. M Aravindhan under that able guidance from time to time the department has actively organized many national, state and local level seminars. The department is committed to encourage researchers to carry out innovative research. it was in the year 2006 approved as a research center. Hitherto 17 scholars have been awarded with degree of philosophy and many more are continuing with their research activity. Today under the leadership of Dr. Preethi. K the department is heading towards achievements and maintaining its glory.
